SPX Cooling - Sidenor Reinosa Factory

Installation of 1 SPX Cooling Tower with 1 cell to replace 2 Cooling Towers with 2 cells each.

Application

The installations renewal project was undertaken with the aim of improving the efficiency and cost of manufacturing as well as increase the size of the parts to be treated.

The problem

The existing Towers were not able to maintain the temperature of the water cold enough for the process and therefore, together with the excessive energy cost incurred, alternative solutions were sought. Due to the increase in size of the new manufactured parts as well as the low energy efficiency of the installations, the client decided to replace the two Forced Draft (4 motors) Cooling Towers with 2 cells each with a single induced draft (1 motor) SPX Tower with one cell.

The solution

The Technical Specification listed the technical characteristics the chosen unit had to meet. Namely:

sufficient cooling capacity for the largest part and minimum overall energy consumption. Model NCF 8411 from SPX Cooling Technologies exceedingly met the requested requirements and provided guarantees that were proven and tested by external laboratories (CTI) and was therefore selected as the new unit to be installed.

The results

After the installation and commissioning, the customer verified that its process offered all the required guarantees for its new parts. The reliability of the cooling capacity and accuracy of the readings obtained, offered better results than expected, which has instilled trust in the system and has allowed the customer to guarantee treatments are carried out on time and correctly, as well as allocate human resources to maintenance and manufacturing areas. The selection of this SPX Tower strengthens the relationship founded in the last 25 years between both companies.
